Precession of the equinoxes

Precession is the slow wobble of Earth's rotational axis, which traces a full circle over about 25,800 years. It gradually shifts the equinox points against the stars, which is why the tropical (season-based) and sidereal (star-based) zodiacs have drifted apart, and why the pole star changes over millennia.
