Zodiac

The zodiac is a belt of the sky, about 8° on either side of the ecliptic (the Sun's yearly path), divided into twelve equal signs of 30° each. The scheme was invented in Babylon in the second half of the fifth century BC, and almost every zodiac in use today descends from it.
