House

A house is one of twelve divisions of the sky in a birth chart, each governing an area of life — self, money, communication, home, and so on. Where the signs say "how", the houses say "where": the life arena in which a planet acts.

The idea recurs across traditions in different forms: the twelve Western houses, the twelve bhava of Vedic astrology, and the twelve "palaces" of Chinese Ziwei Dou Shu are all house-like frameworks for mapping a life.
