Brown Bear

Brown Bear

People born under the Harvest Moon, the last moon of Shawnodese, have the brown bear as their animal totem, the violet as their plant and amethyst as their mineral. Their color is purple, and they belong to the Turtle clan.

Personality

Like amethyst, Brown Bear people have good judgment, a sense of justice and courage, and more discrimination than people of most other moons; they are coolly rational, precise in thought and accurate in what they say. Like the violet, they hide tender feelings behind a cool exterior. They love the ideas of work and duty, like to run a clean and tight ship, and see through lies. They are curious, slow and deliberate, good-natured, cheerful, gentle and confident — but formidable when cornered. Out of balance they can turn cynical, overly critical and bitter out of all proportion. They are not terribly home-oriented, and they are enthusiastic eaters.

Work & Career

They make powerful speakers, good supervisors and teachers, and they often become leaders in whatever field they pursue because of their fairness, strength, courage and tenacity. They also like to fix things.

Mythology & Symbolism

In most animal legends the bear is the head of the council of the animals, and in most tribes the Bear clan was the medicine, the leadership or the defense clan. The book’s brown bear, also called the cinnamon bear, is identical to the black bear: a female can have one brown and one black cub in the same litter.
