Cougar

People born under the Big Winds Moon, the last moon of Waboose, have the cougar as their animal totem, the plantain as their plant and turquoise as their mineral. Their color is the blue-green of turquoise, and they belong to the Frog clan.

Personality

Cougar people are very sensitive and easily hurt, even by chance remarks. Like their stone they are often healers and drawn to religions and their ceremonies; the mystical, magical realm can feel more comfortable to them than any other, so they need grounding. Like the cougar they are territorial and need a den of their own. They keep their real feelings to themselves and often feel like outsiders; repressed emotion can break out in “a scream of emotion” and turn to depression and melancholy. Others see them as indecisive, but they are hunters after spiritual growth, and they can be excellent artists in any medium. When they lose their balance they can be very fierce toward anyone they feel has wounded them.

Love & Relationships

They usually have to be coaxed and teased into a relationship and then need constant reassurance; between two Cougar people, the book says, the woman is the aggressor, like the female of her totem. Cougar men do not find parenthood easy, while Cougar women are protective while their children are small. The book warns them to watch how they treat Deer people, toward whom they can be unconsciously vicious.

Mythology & Symbolism

Turquoise, their stone, is tied to healing and ceremony; their color, the blue-green of turquoise, marks a seeking, spiritual person, prone to self-imposed struggle and melancholy.
