Ofun Meji
Ofun Meji — the sixteenth and final Meji — is the completing Odù of the 16 principal signs: the white cloth of Obatala's cosmic order draped over everything that the preceding fifteen Meji have established. Where Ogbe Meji opens the cycle with the first divine light, Ofun Meji completes it with the white wisdom that has seen everything, understood the arc, and returned to a purity that is not the purity of the beginning but the purity of completion — the white that contains all colours rather than the white that precedes them. Obatala, the eldest and most patient of all Orisha — the one who shaped humanity from clay and who governs all human heads — presides in his most fully expressed wisdom. Those born under Ofun Meji carry the completing principle as their essential nature: the wisdom that brings the full cycle to its ordered close.

Ofun Meji individuals have a quality of completing wisdom that can seem, to those who do not know them well, like detachment — but it is not the detachment of disinterest; it is the cool white clarity of someone who has seen enough of the cycle to understand each phase's place within the whole. They are not easily disturbed by what disturbs others: the storms of Osa, the fires of Obara, the conflicts of Okanran are all, from Ofun's completing perspective, phases in a cycle whose arc they can see. Their moral seriousness is Obatala's seriousness — the deepest, most foundational, most principled — but it must guard against the rigidity that the Ifá corpus repeatedly warns of in Obatala's worship: the sculptor who has drunk palm wine makes imperfect vessels, and the completing Odù that has lost its cooling humility makes imperfect judgements.

In love, Ofun Meji offers the white cloth: the encompassing, holding, clarifying love that wraps around the beloved with the full comprehension of a love that has seen the whole cycle. They do not love with the fire of Obara or the vital abundance of Ose — they love with the cool, complete, orienting clarity of Obatala's white: the love that holds everything in its proper place and makes the beloved feel that they are, in this relationship, fundamentally ordered and held. Ofun Meji governs the bones in their completed, fully formed state, the skull (as the seat of Ori — the personal soul that Obatala shaped), and the body's overall structural integrity. The characteristic health vulnerability is Obatala's own teaching: the things that corrupt the completing clarity — intoxicants, stimulants, and anything that introduces impurity into the system that depends on white clarity for its proper function. The prescription is strict: Ofun Meji individuals must be more careful than others about what they allow into their bodies and minds, because the white cloth is the most visible of all cloths and shows the most readily when something has stained it.
Mythology & Symbolism
The central Ofun Meji mythology is Obatala's own story: how he was commissioned to create human beings from clay, how he drank palm wine in the process and shaped some of them imperfectly (the Yoruba understanding of why some people are born with physical differences — they are Obatala's special children, under his particular protection), and how his deepest wisdom included the knowledge of his own capacity for error. This is the completing Odù's most important teaching: the highest wisdom is not the wisdom that is beyond error but the wisdom that understands its own relationship to error and guards against it with the humility that is the white cloth's true nature.
This Sign in Other Cultures
The archetype of the completing cosmic order — the white, cool, encompassing wisdom that holds all things in their proper place after the full cycle has been traversed — appears across traditions of divine ordering and cosmic completion. In Egyptian tradition, Ma'at — the principle of cosmic truth, justice, and order, represented by the white feather against which the heart is weighed after death — is the closest direct analogue: the completing, white, ordering principle that holds the cosmos in its right relationship. In Hindu tradition, Brahma's creative function is completed by Shiva's destructive-transformative and Vishnu's preserving functions — but it is the combined white light of all three (the trikona of creation, preservation, dissolution) that maps the Ofun principle of completion as the synthesis of the cycle rather than one of its phases. In Platonic philosophy, the Form of the Good — the highest Form, the source of all other Forms' being and knowability, the white light from which all the colours of reality are differentiated — is perhaps the most philosophically complete expression of the Ofun Meji principle.
